The Film
[Rating:1.5/5]
WWE star Randy Orton stars in this numb-skulled action outing as an EMT lured into a dangerous twelve-round game of cat-and-mouse by a vengeful vigilante (Brian Markinson) looking to rid his unnamed city of the people he sees as miscreants. There isn’t much else to say about this one other than director Roel Reiné (Death Race 3: Inferno), who seems right at home with this direct-to-video nonsensical action fare, does what he can to sustain an already ridiculous plot in this sequel (yeah, I said sequel, it is called “reloaded” after all).
There are numerous explosions, car chases, and, to allow our WWE hero Randy Orton an opportunity to flex his muscle, fight sequences that seem taken right out of the pro-wrestling handbook. The villain, Heller, is about as menacing as Tom was to Jerry or the Coyote was to the Roadrunner. It’s partly due to Reiné’s comic book style of direction and partly due to the silly dialogue from David Benullo, but either way, 12 Rounds 2: Reloaded won’t have you contemplating anything. You won’t even be at the edge of your seat wondering what might happen next, because you’ll already know – something’s going to blow up, get kicked, shot, or set on fire.

12 Rounds 2: Reloaded was shot in high definition with the Red Epic cinematographic HD camera and arrives on Blu-ray with an AVC/MPEG-4 1080p/24 encodement from Fox. As far as original HD productions go, this one is not one of the better ones I have seen come to Blu-ray, though it isn’t the worst either. Black levels are murky and the image is a bit overwhelmed by video noise. There is some apparent banding and posterization at times, but nothing too intrusive to make watching a real task.

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48kHz/24-bit) soundtrack is the better of the two out of the A/V presentation here, offering an appropriately aggressive mix that is bottom heavy without being too boomy, very atmospheric, and also provides lots of small discrete effects and clear dialogue.

These small featurettes and the audio commentary included on the disc aren’t worth your time, really, unless you’re a major Randy Orton fan or want to see and hear the cast and crew patting themselves on the back.

This one is really for the easily amused or for the desperately in need of entertainment. Leave it be or only rent it out of an act of desperation.
