ABC News: More Consumers Opting for Blu-ray

BDA_Logo In a report today on the  ABC News technology blog Tech on Deck reporter Ross Rubin cited dropping prices on Blu-ray hardware and the availability of high-profile, breakthrough titles such as The Dark Knight amongst the reasons why consumers who were slow to adopt the new, high definition Blu-ray optical disc format and content to stay with up-converting DVD players are now opting for the full high definition experience of Blu-ray Disc.

The article goes on to state  that the average price of stand-alone Blu-ray players has dropped from an average of $395 in June 2008 to a low of $240 in December of 2008, helping Blu-ray outpace other technologies such as MP3 players and digital cameras over the sluggish holiday sales season.

Another interesting bit of Blu-ray trivia cited in the ABC News article is that Blu-ray players made up 24% of the total DVD market in Denver for the three months ending January 2009 — very interesting indeed.
