Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is a spoof on the culture of the 1970s through the lens of the local Action News genre. Will Ferrell plays the titular character, a not-so-intelligent local San Diego news anchor who is a legend in his own mind, but also head of the number one news show in the area. Burgundy’s misogynistic world view comes tumbling down when beautiful new female co-anchor Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) rolls into town and threatens his job and masculinity.
The film was directed by Andy McKay and produced by Judd Apatow, and features one of Ferrell’s standout feature film performances, plus appearances from comedic actors like Paul Rudd and Steve Carell who would go on to even greater success in years to follow. The chemistry between Ferrell and Applegate is undeniable here. The duo are very funny on screen together, while Ferrell’s improvisation is kept just enough in check to keep the film from tearing apart at the seams.

The Video
This release of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy comes with the Theatrical version of the film remastered in 4K Ultra HD with a 1.85:1 HEVC 2160p (4K UHD) Dolby Vision encodement. The two included Blu-rays with the theatrical, unrated, and Wake Up, Ron Burgundy versions are not remastered. Comedies are usually not the best genre for reference image quality, but this film comes across well on 4K with a good grain structure and crispy details. The color palette is natural and in certain sequences, like the animated lovemaking scene, has excellent vibrancy thanks to the added benefit of the Dolby Vision grading. There is slightly more pop in the highlights as well. A few scenes look a little bit soft and grainy, but overall this is a consistent and pleasing transfer that ups the quality over the previous Blu-ray release.
The Audio
Paramount provides Anchorman with an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix. This is a straightforward mix that is front-heavy but also full of good ambience in the surround channels and full clear dialogue, especially the narration, as well as decent low-end extension.
The Supplements
There is no new material included on this release, but there is a large collection of bonus features that will be great for anyone who has never owned this on home video. There is also a Digital Copy code included.
