“May Be the Last Time”
“Congratulations Bill Compton. They say it cannot be done, but you have thoroughly grossed me out.”
Dr.Ludwig is a little character with a big personality which is why her attitude towards Bill came as a surprise. As a specialist in Bon Temps, surely she’s seen worse than an advanced Hep V infection. Not that it matters, since the good doctor refuses to treat Bill once she finds out who Sookie’s great-grandfather (a thousand times over) is.
Other than to give fans one last glimpse of the all mighty royal fae, bringing Niall back was pointless. He offered no wisdom, shared no secrets and pretty much said he was powerless to help Sookie. Not that it bothered him much, he never liked Bill Compton for her anyway.
Grandpa Niall comments on the miracle of life, death, forgiveness and love, but Sookie couldn’t care less. “Bill’s wife gave birth, so what?” she asked. While it may be callous, for the moment, I agree with Sookie. No one cares about Bill’s relationship with his wife from a hundred years ago. It’s hardly relevant to the story. Which begs the question, why bring it up? Thanks Grandpa.
Given their history together it’s no surprise that Bill and Sookie are officially back together. (Though I expected the hook-up to be stretched out over the last few episodes.) Now that they are a couple again, Bill can perhaps find peace in his true death (if it comes). Sookie has promised to stick with him until the end as will baby vamp Jess. Unless Violet destroys her first.
No doubt Violet is an interesting character, but I’m not sure she serves a worthy purpose. She was created to cause conflict and ultimately to strengthen the relationships of other main characters. Poor Adilyn and Wade! These two virgins are in way over their heads. This could be a colossally awkward first time. Dungeons and sex toys are for the seasoned pro not the timid newbie. I’m frightened to see what Violet has in mind for them (I hope vamp rape isn’t on the menu). If Adilyn and Wade ever escape Violet’s clutches they’ll make an adorable couple with plenty of stories to bond over.
Arlene finds herself conflicted between her morals and her new found lust for vampire Keith.
“I am not a fangbanger. A human with a vampire is just wrong.”
Keith kisses her and offers the predictably corny line, “Does that feel wrong?”
At least Arlene has the good sense to say “Yes.”
That woman has so much heart, she’s an endearingly sweet hot mess. No matter how attracted she is to a vamp, her Hep V positive status should save her from ever consummating a relationship with blood. Despite knowing this Keith tenderly embraces her for a slow dance anyway. It’s one of the episode’s most tender moments.
In a surprising turn of events Eric kills the only lead to Sarah Newlin. Fortunately Big Brother is hard at work and there are plenty of satellite feeds tracking down Sarah’s whereabouts. It’s farfetched, but no more so than believing in a world of vampires and werewolves. Sarah’s blood is about to make Eric and the Yakuza very rich. Even better, Eric is about to be the charming face of NuBlood, the answer to the world’s problems. As Pam asked incredulously, “You want Eric to be your spokesperson for your vampire Jenny Craig commercials?”
Oh yes please!
While there were plenty of juicy moments in this week’s installment of True Blood it wasn’t what I expected as the end draws near. There’s a mounting anticipation for the next (and final) few, hopefully this one was laying the groundwork for a mind blowing wrap up. I can only hope that we don’t end up with a closing as bad as Dexter‘s. Fingers crossed.
