“Love is to Die”
Perhaps there was a part of Bill Compton that wanted to live, but whatever tiny part of him that was seems to have died. He thinks he’s being selfless, saving Sookie from the darkness that he’s become. In his own misguided way he’s choosing to die for her. Trouble is, it isn’t hard to die for someone — dying is the easy part, it’s living that’s hard. And that is what Bill doesn’t realize.
According to Eric’s new insight, Hep V attacks the mind as well as the body. So Bill’s thinking is tinged with this disease, it’s making him want the true death. Remember a few episodes back when Eric was ready to give it all up? Apparently that was the disease talking. Thankfully Pam was there to properly motivate him. Sookie just doesn’t have the cajones Pam does. All she can do is whine and plead with Bill. And you can see how well that’s worked out.
In the end, it was really Jessica who was getting shafted. She still needs Bill, he’s her mentor and guide. Though now that Hoyt is back in town, Jessica may get a second chance at love in which case Bill’s death won’t be as harsh a blow. In order to rekindle their romance, Jess comes clean with Hoyt spilling every secret he’d been glamoured to forget. And in the process Jason loses his best friend a second time.
For once Jason does not bed the hot chic. Bridgette teaches him what it’s like to sleep with a girl and not have sex. She tries to show Jason that he isn’t the shallow man he’s always thought himself to be. He’s kind, compassionate and thoughtful which is why the ladies love him according to Bridgette. And I’ll bet being hot doesn’t hurt either. Though she claims his looks have little to do with his magnetism. And perhaps he illustrated that point by charming his way into a next day plane ticket over the phone.
Anyone else surprised that Sam just up and left? He ditched the crazy little town of Bon Temps choosing to follow his baby mama and at least attempt a fresh start. I didn’t see that coming, but am thrilled for Sam. Good for him. Maybe one day Sookie will understand. At the end of the day if she loses Bill and Sam she still has Eric.
One of my favorite moments of this episode is when Ginger’s dream comes true. Eric fulfills her fantasy right there on the throne the way she always imagined it. She can die a happy woman. Thank you writers! I had no idea how much I wanted to see something good come Ginger’s way. A reward for her faithful and loyal service over the years. It was a highlight for me.
I still find the Yakuza off-putting and don’t think that’s going to change in the final episode. Angry with Eric and Pam for spilling the antidote news, the Yakuza are out to remedy that. They’re on their way over to Sookie’s where an ailing Bill has come to say his peace. He doesn’t even know why he wants to die, but for unknown reasons he wants Sookie to understand his choice. Good luck! I can imagine how the final episode might go down, Bill and the Yakuza in a bloody battle at Sookie’s. Could be worse. We’ll know for sure in one week. Please True Blood don’t pull a “Dexter,” do the series justice and wrap it up in a way that we can appreciate.
