DEG Touts Flood of Blu-ray 3D Releases for Holidays

Early adopters of the home 3D format will finally have something to rejoice about this coming holiday season. Now, they can finally stop re-watching those bundled copies of Coraline, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, and How to Train Your Dragon, or the copies of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Monster House they purchased.  DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group, which represents the home entertainment industry, including studios, consumer electronics manufacturers, IT companies, and music labels, announced this week a flood of Blu-ray 3D titles arriving at retail for the holiday season. Among the releases are 10 titles on Blu-ray 3D arriving November 16, just in time for Black Friday.

There will be 36 titles  available through the end of the year and dozens more already slated for release in 2011. The releases include titles from AIX Records, DreamWorks Animation, Giant Screen Films, Image Entertainment, IMAX Corporation, Lionsgate, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and Warner Home Video.

The releases will be supported by a nationwide promotional campaign by retailers including Amazon.com, Best Buy, Fry’s Electronics, HHGregg, Kmart, Radio Shack, Sears, Sixth Avenue Electronics, Target and Walmart.

Unfortunately, what is probably the most hotly anticipated 3D title of them all, Avatar, will remain an exclusive for the foreseeable future, coming bundled with Panasonic 3D hardware.
