Gabriel Iglesias: Aloha Fluffy finds the comedian traveling to Hawaii for his latest Comedy Central special. Filmed live at the Hawaii Theatre, Gabriel tackles his normal subjects (his weight, family), but also hits on new subjects – most of which received many, many chuckles and laughs from this guy here.
Like his previous efforts, Aloha Fluffy finds Iglesias traveling to a new venue, bringing along his style of comedy. And like most comedians out there, you’re going to have those who can’t stand Gabriel’s overuse of voices, his constant references to his weight, as well as the talk about his family. Personally, out of all the comedians that I’ve listened to in recent years, I find Iglesias to be one of the funnier ones. Why? For the exact reasons why some may dislike him. The addition of sound effects, being mixed in with varying voices, all help to build the story for the audience members. While his brand of comedy may not be the most UNIQUE out there, I continue to find myself laughing quite a bit (and occasionally rewinding, especially the ‘please, please’ bit in the Saudi Arabia skit.) If you haven’t heard any of Iglesias’s material, a simple YouTube search, as well as five minutes of your time, will tell you if his brand is worth your time.

Fluffy arrives with a 1:78:1 framed, AVC MPEG-4 encoded transfer, one which is about as good as an HD broadcast could be good. That’s not to say this transfer is bad. Rather, colors are spot on, particularly that of the reds and blacks that dominate the main stage. Detail is sharp as well, while we can notice a bit of source noise. All in all, this transfer will please fans of the big man.

Audio-wise, Fluffy’s jokes can be heard via an included Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track. Dialogue, as expected, is well reproduced via the center channel. Atmosphere mostly occurs when the audience laughs or claps, which helps to bring us right into the middle of the laughs. All in all, this track handles the material well.

The Definitive Word
Overall:
[Rating:3.5/5]
While his style of comedy may not work for everyone, I find Gabriel Iglesias to be one of the funnier comedians out today. His latest special has been awarded a solid Blu-ray from Comedy Central, one fans will definitely want to add to their collections.
