An odd high school-based anime with sci-fi, fantasy, and mild fan service elements, Heaven’s Lost Property follows the story of Tomoki, a slightly perverted high school student with a panty fetish and a close childhood friend, Sohara, a girl with an incredible karate chop that she doesn’t hesitate to use on him when he gets out of line. Tomoki’s motto in life has always been “peace and quite is the best,” but he finds it impossible to find when a strange girl with wings and the power to grant any wish drops into his life literally out of the sky. He becomes Ikaros’ the Angeloid’s master and together with Sohara and the rest of their school friends, the adventures become increasingly crazy, especially when another Angeloid shows up. But Ikaraos and the new Angeloid are keeping a secret that could be dangerous, just what is it? Whatever it is, Tomoki and the gang, including the Angeloids are learning to take pleasure in the little things in life.
Heaven’s Lost Property very much reminded me of a similar anime series that I reviewed, Chobits. They both share many of the classic traits of this sort of teen anime and even have similar styles of character design. There are many of the same elements of romance and fan service, although Heaven’s Lost Property is a bit heavier on the latter. In all, it may not be an entirely unique premise, but I did find myself enjoying and caring about the characters and the development of the story in Heaven’s Lost Property.
Video Quality

The AVC/MPEG-4 1080p/24 transfer shows all the classic signs of a standard definition upscaled image, with some aliasing around the edges, motion artifacts, and at times soft detail. With that being said, this is one of the stronger upscaled transfers from Funimation, and these artifacts are subdued as is video noise. Colors also look quite strong for an SD-sourced image.
Audio Quality

Heaven’s Lost Property is supplied with two fine lossless soundtracks in Dolby TrueHD. The original Japanese track in 2.0 stereo is clean and dynamic with a natural sounding midrange and wide stereo panning. The English 5.1 is mildly aggressive with subtle use of the surrounds for discrete sounds and lush atmospherics. It uses the LFE judiciously, but enough to add a good amount of bottom to the numerous sound effects.

An interesting and solid entry in the high school anime genre, Heaven’s Lost Property has a good balance of humor, quirkiness, naughty fan service, and sci-fi. The characters are all oddball enough to be memorable and make this a worthwhile watch.
