The Collection

[Rating:4/5]

I won’t bother to go into depth in this review for this collection considering that History in 3D merely repackages History’s three previously released 3D documentaries, The History of the World in Two Hours, WWII in 3D, and Titanic: 100 Years in 3D, bringing them together in one box. I’ve previously reviewed each title here in depth, and I’ll refer you to the hyperlinks above (click each listed title) to find out more on each individual release included. I will mention that History in 3D packages all three discs in a snazzy new box with a lenticular cover. Each title within retains the same Blu-ray packaging however.

3D Effect: [Rating:4/5]

Nothing has changed from previous releases for each title. They retain the same solid 1080p/24 AVC/MPEG-4 encodements in 2D and relatively strong MVC 3D performance that is sufficient to show off a 3D display, but not exactly IMAX material. History of the World in Two Hours remains the exception out of the three with the weakest performance in 2D or 3D. Again, see the detailed reviews for more information.

Audio Quality

[Rating:4/5]

All titles except WWII in 3D have lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48kHz/24-bit). WWII retains its Dolby Digital 5.1 track.

Supplemental Materials

Nothing at all, not even for this boxed set.

The Definitive Word

Overall:

[Rating:4/5]

Since there is nothing new or extra in this set, it will only be of interest to those who haven’t plunked down the cash for each individual title already. It might also make a nice gift for someone in your life who is into 3D and these sorts of documentaries.
