Charles S. Cohen, Chairman and CEO of the Cohen Media group has the announced the unveiling of the COHEN FILM COLLECTION (formerly The Rohauer Library). This ambitious undertaking will involve the digital restoration of more than 700 classic movies that span the early decades of the film industry. A number of these restored films will be re-released in theaters; others will be issued in Blu-ray and DVD formats.
THE COHEN FILM COLLECTION will gave many viewers an unrivaled opportunity to see some of the most important films ever made by legendary actors and directors. Working with the original nitrate elements, camera negatives, prints and other scarce materials, the restoration teams will ensure that the best possible High Definition transfers will be made available.
The Collection’s first offering, Tristana. is currently being shown in movie theaters and will be released on Blu-ray and DVD in March 2013. The Thief of Baghdad, a 1924 Douglas Fairbanks fantasy epic, digitally restored in 2K from 35 mm negatives with color tints and original tones, along with the Carl Davis orchestral score, and numerous extras will be released on February 19, 2013. Among other films currently undergoing restoration are Buster Keaton’s The General, D.W. Griffith’s Intolerance, and Rudolph Valentino’s Son of the Sheik.
