The Performance

[Rating:4.5/5]

As a guitarist, I feel a personal connection to Les Paul, because I’ve been playing the guitar he invented since I was a teen; my prized possession Limited Edition Gibson Les Paul Standard, so a concert in honor of the late Les Paul by the great Jeff Beck is right up my alley.

The show, captured in high definition on June 9th, 2010 on what would have been Les Paul’s 95th birthday, was performed at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York where Paul played practically every week. It featured Beck, along with special guests Imelda May, Brian Setzer, Gary “U.S.” Bonds and Darrel Higham. It features a selection of Les Paul and Mary Ford tunes as well as other rockabilly classics and standards in front of a crowd of rock elite, such as David Bowie, Meatloaf, Steven Van Zandt, and Kirk Hammett.

Highlights include the rollicking “Train Kept A Rollin’,” the slick “Peter Gunn” and the Bill Hailey hit “Shake, Rattle, and Roll.”

The concert is captured in a solid 1080i HD video that arrives on Blu-ray in an AVC/MPEG-4 transfer from Eagle Rock free from any noticeable artifacts. The image is mostly clean with minimal noise, lifelike colors, and little judder.

Audio Quality

[Rating:4.5/5]

The lossless surround mix has a big open sound with great detail and instrumental separation, a strong midrange and tight lows. The surrounds have ample amounts of ambience that open the soundstage and capture the acoustics of the performance space nicely.
