And the bops don’t stop — four days after releasing her assertive, hip-hop-tinged single “Blow it All,” the queen of bops Kim Petras released “Sweet Spot.” Continuing her expansive experimentation with sounds, the pulsating dance number hearkens back to the late-’70s electro-disco of Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love,” the remix version of Madonna’s “Express Yourself” and even a candy coated version of Depeche Mode’s electronic pop smash “Enjoy the Silence.” Even as her influences are readily called on, her sound has sharpened in her latested batch of singles (“Broken,” “Got My Number,” “Blow it All”) and she has become easily recongnizeable as “Kim Petras,” delving into a seamless blend of ’80s (and now ’70s) retro and conetemporry EDM, hip-hop, and pop rock sounds while exploring familiar themes of heartbreak, pop culture, and female empowerment.
