Marantz Blu-ray Players Get DivX HD Certification

DivX, Inc. today announced they have certified two Marantz Blu-ray players for DivX HD playback — the high-end Marantz BD7004 and BD5004 Blu-ray players, both currently available in the US and Canada.

Using the DivX codec technology, the devices can now playback 1080p high definition DivX content that has been compressed to fit onto a standard DVD, though it is arguable if this heavy compression will yield the same picture quality results that Blu-ray can and does, as many home theatre advocates can attest to.

Eric Rodli, Executive Vice President, Licensing, at DivX, commented, “Having Marantz include DivX HD technology in their leading-edge Blu-ray players is a real win for us. As the market for Blu-ray players accelerates, we are pleased to have demand from our OEM partners to include DivX HD technology as a value-added feature.”
