The Film
[Rating:2/5]
Osombie (as the title might indicate) tells of a story where Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden has risen from the dead. Conspiracy theorist Dusty (Eve Mauro) travels to Afghanistan to rescue her brother where she finds herself on the ‘in’ with a team of Special Forces soldiers on a secret assignment. Just what that assignment specifically is may end up shocking Dusty and the troops as soon they’re confronted by the ultimate root of evil – Osama Bin Laden himself (only in zombie form.) What results is an all around cheesy film that is somewhat entertaining.
One quick glance at the cover art and the title for Osombie should make you fully aware of what you’re getting yourself into when you throw this one into your Blu-ray player — that being an over-the-top, occasionally stupid, yet still somewhat entertaining film. There isn’t a single moment where I didn’t wonder why on earth I’m watching this, nor did I try and think why I shouldn’t shut it off. Yet, I didn’t (and it’s not only because it’s my job to review movies.) The main reason why? Movies like Osombie exist for one reason, and one reason only: Shut your brain off escapist fun. While fun is probably being used in the loosest sense of the term, I’d be lying if I didn’t occasionally find myself both laughing and partially smiling at what I was watching on screen. No, Osombie isn’t a ‘good’ film in the slightest way, yet is entertaining enough for its 94 minute run time. That, in the end, is all we can really ask for.

[Rating:4/5]
Osombie arrives with a 1:78:1 framed, AVC MPEG-4 encoded transfer, one of which is solid considering the low budget of the film. The varying CGI scenes showcase fine detail, even though some of the physical effects can tend to lean toward the really, really bad side. Having been shot digitally, clarity is probably the strongest aspect here as both facial close-ups result in accurate contrast levels and, in particular, the makeup on the zombies is quite impressive. The palette handles most of the scenes well with the possible exception of some of the darker moments losing a bit of clarity. Outside of that, this is a solid effort.
Audio Quality
[Rating:4.5/5]
Audio-wise, Osombie contains an all-around impressive lossless effort via its included DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track. Dialogue is well reproduced throughout via the center channel, while the film’s atmosphere rings throughout the room in an effective manner. During a majority of the gun battles, LFE hits with fine low-end that rattles the room. Discrete effects, like that of the different zombie noises, mixes in with the action. The different music selections also hits just right summing what is a very impressive aural effort.

The Definitive Word
Overall:
[Rating:2.5/5]
While not a good film per say, Osombie is entertaining enough to warrant one watch. While I won’t ever recommend purchasing this one, at least the Blu-ray technical presentation does impress.
