Heaven’s Lost Property: The Angeloid of Clockwork is a feature-length film that uses elements from the complete original Heaven’s Lost Property anime story arch to form a new story. Tomoki, the perverted high school boy who seeks only peace and quiet but has had his life disrupted by the irresistibly cute “Angeloids” Ikaros, Nymph and Astraea. This story arc finds the shy wallflower Hiyori admiring Tomoki from afar, to the point where she falls in love with him. Wanting to get closer to him, she joins the New World Discovery Club, but Tomoki won’t accept her. If it does, it means his life of leisure will be in jeopardy, so he puts her through a series of perverted challenges that she meets without issue – until the rest if his gang finds out, and punishes him severely. With Hiyori in and accepted into the fold, things settle down, and Hiyori gets her wish, but it is soon uncovered that she has a deeper connection to the Angeloids and the Synapse than anyone, even she, realized. This puts Tomoki’s life in danger and leads to a climactic conclusion.
While all of the humorous and mild fan service elements from the series are all here in this feature-length story arc, The Angeloid of Clockwork hardly stands on its on without knowing the history of the story. There is effort made to provide background information by heavily relying on scenes from the original series, but none of these really give enough information, especially when the climax is reached and in terms of some of the abilities of the Angeloids and the connections to the so-called Synapse. Still, if you are a fan of the franchise, this is a rather enjoyable divergence from the main storyline.
Video Quality

The AVC/MPEG-4 1080p encodement of The Angeloid of Clockwork is a little inconsistent. Some spots look a little soft and faded, while some look very vibrant and crisp with strong contrast. There are moments where there is heavily visible color banding as well. Overall, it offers a reasonable presentation, but nothing approaching reference levels.
Audio Quality

The original Japanese track in Dolby TrueHD 2.0 (48kHz/24-bit) and an English dub in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 (48kHz/24-bit) with English subtitles are included. The Japanese track continues to be my go to, and it provides good, clear dialogue, impressive dynamic range and stereo imaging. For those who prefer English and 5.1, the English track is also good. It obviously beefs up the low end, has more atmospherics and a wider soundfield with good use of the surrounds of occasional discrete panning.

A good story based on the original Heaven’s Lost Property anime story arc, The Angeloid of Clockwork will be a good film for anyone who enjoyed the original series. For those who haven’t seen the series, this one may leave you a little disoriented, but may still be somewhat pleasurable.
