The Film

[Rating:2/5]

One truly would have to be a jackass to do the things that Johnny Knoxville and his cronies perpetrate in this third big screen installment of the Jackass franchise. I mean, seriously, how can anyone find africanized honeybee tether ball and urinating on people funny? Or joking about a grandfather having a sexual relationship with his granddaughter in one of the film’s numerous Candid Camera-style vignettes? These dudes continue their low brow escapades, but ten years after they started on MTV, it’s somehow even sadder than it was back then.

Just in case you can’t get enough of the crude, puerile behavior of these grown men perpetually suspended in their adolescence, this release comes with both the Theatrical and Unrated Extended editions of the film.

Video Quality

[Rating:3.5/5]

Jackass 3 (or Jackass 3D) was shot in HD and it shows up on Blu-ray in an AVC/MPEG-4 1080p encodement sans the 3D from Paramount. If you want to see the film in 3D as originally intended, you’ll have to step way down in resolution and watch it in anaglyphic (blue/magenta) 3D on the included DVD. Almost makes me wonder why I bought a 3D-TV and Blu-ray player. Anyway, Jackass’ picture looks well enough, although it does have more of a video-like appearance to it and video noise does often become an issue.

Audio Quality

[Rating:4/5]

The sound is surprisingly good with clean dialogue and big bass. There’s a wide soundstage across the front that helps to support the crazy stunts.

Supplemental Materials

[Rating:2.5/5]

The making of, deleted scenes and outtakes included as supplements pretty much amount to a behind-the-scenes look at more hijinks, crude jokes, and stunts gone horribly wrong – just the thing for people who love these Jackass flicks.

The supplements provided with this release are:

  • The Making of Jackass 3D (1.78:1; 1080p/24; 0:28.39)
  • Deleted Scenes (1.78:1; 1080p/24)
  • Outtakes (1.78:1; 1080p/24; 0:27.37)
  • Trailer (1.78:1; 1080p/24; Dolby Digital 5.1)

The Definitive Word

Overall:

[Rating:3/5]

Obviously this film will only appeal to certain crowd. I can’t see how anyone would want to actually purchase this rather than rent it, but if you are a fan of the Jackass series, I suppose it is worth it to add to your collection.
