Scooby-Doo! Mask of the Blue Falcon is a fun trip down memory lane for those of us who grew up watching the Hanna-Barbera TV shows. Scooby, Shaggy, and the rest of the Mystery, Inc. gang all head to a comic book convention where the brand new, edgier version of comic book hero Blue Falcon and Dynomutt (think Batman and Robin, only with a dog) will be debuting alongside the new trailer for his film. Scattered amongst a slew of people all dressed up in familiar looking costumes, like Fred Flintstone, for example, the Blue Falcon’s number one nemesis, Mr. Hyde appears and begins to terrorize the crowds at the convention. It falls to Scooby-Doo and the rest of the gang to determine who’s really behind the mask. The number one suspect? The original Blue Falcon, from the old 60’s television show, but as we know with Scooby-Doo adventures, all is never as it seems. This film is a fun ride that updates the Scooby show for the present. It looks great, it’s funny, and it has all the action and mystery you’d expect. Kids new to Scooby will enjoy it and those of us who grew up with the lovable hound will have an enjoyable walk down memory lane.

A generally strong presentation of the animation is offered in this AVC/MPEG-4 1080p encodement from Warner. It has crisp, detailed line art, rich color saturation, and strong contrast. No noise or softness affects the image, but only the slightest banding can be spotted in the color fills at times.

A solid DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48/24) soundtrack is provided. It offers strong atmospheric effects, a natural breadth of dynamics, spacious panning across the soundfield, particularly off to the sides, and clear dialogue. Low end extension is strong and the high end is natural and airy.

Some of the heavier moments in Mask of the Blue Falcon might be a little scary for the very youngest ones among you, but generally speaking, this is a Scooby-Doo adventure that is great for the whole family. The Blu-ray looks and sounds fantastic as well.
