The Series
[Rating:4/5]
After 14 seasons, now going on 15, what’s left to say about South Park? The animated series from cable network Comedy Central, like many of its animated counterparts, has already lasted longer than most live-action shows dare dream of. They must be doing something right.
Season 14 of Trey Parker’s and Matt Stone’s long-running animated phenomenon continues the rude, crude, and lewd adventures of the foul-mouthed kids from South Park and fills its 14 episodes with the usual array of celebrity, pop culture, and political satire. Starting off the season with the obvious Tiger Woods jokes, before touching on everything from medical marijuana, Barack Obama, Charlie Sheen, a ban on Kentucky Fried Chicken, the insanity that is friendship on FaceBook and a fight against an invasion by New Jersey, South Park‘s 14th season is more of the in-your-face humour we’ve all come to expect from these animated troublemakers.

The 1080p/24 AVC/MPEG-4 encodement is a big improvement over the broadcasts of South Park. Gone are all signs of macroblocking and any instability in contrasts and white levels. Colors are vibrant and line art is clean and sharp.

The English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 soundtrack is a typically reserved television mix, but it does offer an abundance of ambience, clean dialogue, and good dynamics with high frequencies that are easy on the ears.

The Definitive Word
Overall:
[Rating:4/5]
South Park may not seem as inventive or shocking as it once was, but it has remained consistent over the years and is always guaranteed to stir up a bit of controversy and induce some laughter. The Fourteenth Season continues the trend while supplying a solid Blu-ray release for fans of the series.
