The Performance
[Rating:3.5/5]
Usher, the reigning king of R&B, performed in London’s O2 Arena this past April as part of his OMG Tour. Lighting, staging, costume changes, choreography and a solid mix of R&B and Hip-Hop all help to capture the full essence of what Usher is all about. But first, a bit of background on the artist himself. For nearly 15 years, Usher has dazzled audiences and listeners around the world. First beginning with his My Way album in 1997, Usher immediately gained a fan base thanks in part to his swift dance moves and energetic ‘club’ type music. Continuing with a successful formula, Usher then released numerous other albums spanning over a decade with hits that include ‘U Remind Me’, ‘Yeah‘, ‘U Don’t Have To Call’, ‘Burn’ and Confessions Part II‘.
Having been a fan of not only his work ethic, his desire to keep striving to the best and of his music in and of itself, I was excited to review this title. The show itself is full of energy and Usher always involves the audience, even occasionally performing directly above them. It’s safe to say even the most basic Usher fan (i.e. one who’s only heard his radio hits) can find enjoy this concert. Of note, I found his higher energized performance of hit ‘Yeah’ and the slower ‘Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home)’ to be some of the highlights.
The following tracks are performed:
- Monstar
- She Don’t Know
- Yeah
- U Remind Me
- U Don’t Have To Call
- You Make Me Wanna
- Mars Vs Venus
- Nice & Slow
- Love In This Club
- Lil Freak
- Hot Tottie
- There Goes My Baby
- Burn
- Bad Girl
- Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home)
- Caught Up
- DJ Got Us Falling In Love
- More
- OMG

Framed at 1:78:1 with an AVC MPEG-4 codec, Usher’s OMG Tour — Live From London arrives on Blu-ray with a solid transfer. Detail is spot on whether it be close ups of Usher or the swooping crane movements of the varying cameras. Flesh tones are also accurate resulting in correct contrast levels. Low lit sequences don’t lose detail either, which was a nice aspect. I did notice a slight bit of film grain here and there, but nothing overly concerning. All in all, a fine presentation from Eagle Rock.

As with most Blu-ray concerts I’ve seen, the provided PCM/DTS-HD Master Audio tracks are excellent. Usher’s voice is distinctly heard throughout the arena. Whether it be the slower song selections of the faster, upbeat ones, everything sounds great. Atmosphere is top notch creating a sense of us being in the arena. LFE, as one might expect with this genre, is deep and immersive offering up booming bass that can (at times) truly shake the room. Similar to the recently reviewed Lindsey Buckingham disc, I preferred the DTS-HD track. In all reality both offer up fine audio. All in all, I was quite impressed with the provided tracks.
