With the aid of expressive Meryl Streep ,who is the voice of a flower, Wings of Life takes us on a journey told by our flowering plants and their flying co-inhabitors of this planet. From the very start, I can assure you that you have never seen these winged creatures so up close and in such detail. Watching the wings in slow-motion is simply mesmerizing. The spoken text weaves in and out of the evolving account of the close connections between plants, insects, and animals. Literally covering the globe, there a numerous stories about these interrelationships, all fascinating in their own right. Director Louie Schwartzberg makes all of the individual pieces flow smoothly, one into the next, and gives us a sense of both drama and purpose

High definition cinematography loves nature and the camerawork in this film is superb. I doubt that most viewers will have gotten such an intimate perspective on the subject matter here portrayed. The hummingbird battle in Chapter 8 must be seen to be believed.

The narration is clear and centered, as it should be in the DTS-HD Master Audio surround track. There is discrete use of the surround channels to convey the noises of flapping wings and the ambience of an immersive score by Marc-George Andersen.

A great watch from beginning to end, Wings of Life will be enjoyed by viewers of all ages. While a documentary, this is anything but a dry account of its subject matter. The message that we live on a very interconnected planet is driven home, perhaps a little relentlessly, at every opportunity. With such beautiful cinematography, great script, and a lovely soundtrack, this film will certainly have a long and well-deserved shelf life. Listening to the end credits song, I could not help but feel that we all have an obligation to ensure that this time-honored work of the birds and the bees should not be neglected or obstructed. Highly recommended.
