When it comes to the never ending Wrong Turn franchise, the question is not about who’s going to die, but how are they going to die? Just like Saw and numerous other imitators, you go into a film like this for the vicarious thrill of watching people in pain getting slaughtered. This series nuked the refrigerator a long time ago and there’s nothing much that director Declan O’Brien can do to infuse any magic into it. At this point, it’s like the producers aren’t even trying to try, this is simply product to be churned out. Even the production looks cheap. Supposedly set in a small West Virginia town, nobody but those with really bad eyesight would think that the streets this particular group of unaware college students find themselves being slaughtered in was anything but lifted off of the set of Sesame Street.
So, what’s the plot for Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines? There is none, really. The aforementioned college kids head to said town for a Mountain Man festival and end up trapped, fighting for their lives alongside the local sheriff (Camilla Arfwedson) against a group of inbred hillbilly cannibals. Queue numerous gross-out scenes of people having their hand chopped off with axes, run over by lawn mowers, their guts torn out and shoved down their throats, etc., etc. This isn’t horror, per se, this is closer to snuff porn. There’s a market for it, but this movie is complete rubbish.

There’s not a lot of delicacy going on in the lighting and color grading for Wrong Turn 5, as a result, although the image looks relatively clean, it doesn’t look very filmic. I can’t complain too much about this transfer from Fox as it doesn’t have too many major flaws, but the picture just doesn’t jump out at me the way a “horror” film should.
Audio Quality

The English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack is also rather boring, lacking the kind of atmospherics that usually make or break films like this. It’s a bit front-heavy, but it does have a solid low end and very clear dialogue.
