The Film

 

 This latest installment in Disney’s direct-to-video Disney Fairies franchise featuring their very marketable fairy Tinker Bell finds the Tinker Fairy taking on the responsibilities of creating the scepter for the Pixie Hollow autumn festival. But when she accidentally shatters the ancient moonstone needed to create the blue pixie dust which will replenish the pixie dust tree so essential to the fairies, Tinker Bell must go seek an ancient lost treasure long rumored to contained a magical mirror that will grant one last wish that she must use to wish the moonstone back into one piece.
Tinker Bell does not have the same big budget as her Pixar cousins, and this one-time peripheral Peter Pan character definitely shows her lower budget in the quality of the BG animation. Though it often looks quite colorful and brilliant, it doesn’t have the same level of realism and minutia of detail of some animated classic. Of course, the story also a little on the thin side, but is it should be enough to hold the attention of the less demanding little girls in your life. My cousin’s little four or five year old (I hope she forgives me for forgetting her exact age) is completely enthralled with the Disney fairies at the moment and I’m sure you can guess which one is her favourite, so Disney is sure to have another winner in the home video market on their hands with this release for sure.
Video Quality

 

Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure arrives on Blu-ray in a 1.78:1 1080p/24 AVC/MPEG-4 high definition encoding from Disney. The CG-animated film is filled with radiant, saturated colors that look spectacular in this transfer. Detail is superb, the source looks pristine with not even a hint of compression artifacts or post processing misdeeds. Although the CG on this release is not on the same level of a big budget Pixar release that would enable this to rise to absolutely perfect reference quality of one of thise releases, it is darn close.
Audio Quality

 

 The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48kHz/24-bit) soundtrack on Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure is solid. It has clean, full dialogue, a smooth sounding musical score and good dynamic range. The ambience in the surround channels is full and special effects are well balanced in the mix, but overall the mix is a little stagnant for this sort of film and low frequencies are not very extended at all. Still, Tink will provide enough enjoyment to keep the little ones excited, but it is hardly a showcase piece.
Supplemental Materials

 

 The supplements on here feel like throwaways, consisting of no more than a few alternate scenes and unfinished bits of animation that didn’t make into the final film, along with some very promotional feeling featurettes on Disney’s Pixie Hollow attractions at their theme parks.

Overall:


 

 Disney has found major success with their Disney Fairies line and leading the way is the tinker fairy, Tinker Bell. Her direct-to-video releases and line of merchandise all add up to a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure sure isn’t anywhere near the level of what you would expect from the likes of Pixar or even Dreamworks, but kids will like it nonetheless and the Blu-ray release looks excellent.
